Parachute Dress | Creative Portraits

I have always wanted to take creative portraits of someone in a parachute dress. What do I mean by parachute dress? I mean, you actually take a parachute and have someone stand in the middle and wear it like a skirt. Crazy, right?

Well, a few months ago I was able to find another local photographer and fashion designer, Jo Hartley, who had a parachute she was not going to need anymore and I drove to her house to pick it up. I wanted so badly to get something scheduled right away and create some epic portraits with this parachute dress idea. However, I got home and the parachute sat in the box in my garage and it waited.

I am not sure what I expected. I picked the parachute up in the middle of January. That is not really ideal portrait weather in the Kansas City area. Life continued and I launched my High School Influencer program, which is designed to create fashion forward, dramatic, creative portraits. Then the stars aligned and at the beginning of April I had my first opportunity to create portraits with the parachute dress.

Alysia was awesome and completely trusted the process. Or she at least made be believe she was trusting the process. We created some amazing creative portraits in my home studio space. They truly came out better than I could have imagined. Huge shout out to her mom and dad who assisted in making the parachute fill up with air. We could not have done it without them.

I certainly plan on having many more creative portrait sessions with this parachute. If you are interested in booking your own parachute dress session, please reach out.

In the meantime, check out these other awesome portraits from our session.
