This is a great question and one I spent countless hours trying to figure out. For the last 9 years, I have been a jack of all trades in the world of photography. From portrait photography to wedding photography, I have dabbled in everything all while knowing that I need to focus my energy toward a specific something in order to truly make my business succeed. I just did not know what that something was.
Then a little over three years ago I start the Kansas City Christian HipHop Project. During this personal portrait project, I fell in love with the art of portraiture. I fell in love with controlling light and creating images of these artists in crazy places that had a character of their own. It was eye-opening for me to be able to produce these high-end, commercial styled, magazine worth images. With each additional photo shoot, it became clearer to me what my style was.
However, I still wasn’t sure how to pursue it.
As I dug deeper into commercial portraiture I discovered the world of fashion photography. It was with this discovery that I realized I could create beautiful fashion styled portraits in a photography studio environment. This was a whole new world to me as I swore when I started photography, that I would never want a studio. I was completely wrong in that assumption. I love shooting in my studio space.
It was then I had my epiphany. My focus is high-end portrait photography with a commercial and fashion edge. It was like the clouds parted and the angels sang ” The Hallelujah Chorus.” It all clicked, I had my direction and I knew I needed to make some changes. So that is what I have been doing for the last year, making changes.
This brings me to the future of Jeremy Ellsworth Photography. As 2018 knocks on the door I am focusing my business efforts toward portrait photography. This starts with a brand new website. (That you should totally go check out when you are done reading this.) The future of Jeremy Ellsworth Photography also includes offering studio portrait sessions. These are perfect sessions for children, high school seniors, personal branding, and modern glamour portraiture.
The last thing I am putting in place is an awesome client experience. From beginning to end this process is about creating awesome portraits for you, the client. That does not just apply to the photo shoot. It also applies to the planning as well as the products and prints you choose from your session. Photographs are not complete until they exist in print.
Needless to say, I am extremely excited about the direction things are headed in. I am looking forward to 2018 being the best year ever for my business and my family. Before you ask, I will still be shooting weddings. However, the number I take will be limited in an effort to provide each and every client the most awesome service they deserve.
