Taking a Leap of Faith

November 1, 2014, is a day that I will never forget for as long as I live. You see, November 1, 2014, was my first day being a full-time professional photographer and graphic designer. It may also be one of the most exciting and terrifying days of my life. Let me provide some back story…

I have been a professional photographer since 2009, and have been providing graphic design services since 2012, all while working a full-time day job to provide for my family. You see, somewhere in the back of my mind, I bought into the lie that art could not provide a stable income, and was not the direction to take as a responsible adult. I let that hold be back from chasing many dreams over my 18 years of adulthood. For that, I have had to apologize to myself many, many times.

You may be asking, what is different now? Don’t you have two little kids and a wife to take care of? Have you lost your mind? My answers to those questions are: Jesus(see below), yes, and maybe.

Through many hours of conversations with my wife, and even more hours in prayer with the Man in Charge, we felt led to take a leap of faith. It was time to put our trust in God and not in man. It was time for my happiness to trump the “guaranteed” paycheck. There is no more promise of tomorrow working for someone else than there is working for myself.

Will I have to work extremely hard to make this work? Yes. Will there be late nights and more hours worked than before? Yes. Will I get to see my children grow up because I have more control over my schedule? Yes. Will I enjoy life more because I am doing something I love? That’s the plan.

I am so excited for what the future holds for me, my business, and my family. I have never been more at peace in my life than I am right now. I believe that God is in control and I fully trust Him. I believe that He has my best interest in mind, and I am ready to hit the ground running.

I ask that those of you who pray, please add our family to your prayer list. We covet those prayers, and are thankful for each of you that take the time to think about us each day.

Be on the lookout for more frequent blog posts on this site. I will post things that are photography and design-related, as well as personal things that are going on in our family. I am looking forward to keeping up with all of you awesome people.

And because a blog post isn’t a blog post without a picture, here is one of our most recent images from our family session with the AMAZING Sarah Cummings at Expressions KC. (www.expressionskc.com)
